No one wants to write, and everyone wants to direct - funny that. At ZenHQ we do both. Chris Roland has years of experience, including showrunning, directing, writing and producing - a whole bunch of hats under which multiple personalities fight for control!

One thing we take really seriously is something we call "Devising A Project". Basically, Devising A Project means approaching a project from both a creative and business POV long before we ever put pen to paper. That fight for control in Chris' head is actually a good thing - for the project, at least - Chris often ends up a vegetable after a production.

The reason it's good is because all the great elements that make a great film are fought for until the perfect balance is struck.

As a director, Chris sums up his style simply. "My job is to juxtapose images that make the audience want to follow the story, rather than me telling them the story." Having been a successful actor in Los Angeles and New York in the 80's, Chris respects and is sensitive to the actor's process. "Basically, I make a few suggestions then get out of the way. Actors know what they are doing. My job is just to guide without being obtrusive."

As a writer Chris writes original scripts, acts as a script doctor, or polishes the final draft. "Structure is where most scripts fall apart. Great ideas often get sidetracked by fat that does not push the story forward."
